Ashley M Scott

Ashley, you were recognized by Forbes as an Under 30 Scholar. Can you tell us about this honor and what it provided for you?

As an Under 30 Scholar, I was selected as one of 1,000 Scholars across the United States to attend the global annual Forbes Under 30 Summit. The summit is tailored to networking and hearing top investors, cultural icons, policymakers, and leaders share their experience on career ventures and business acumen.

I know that you are focused on promoting diversity in technology. What are you doing today toward that goal?

I work on this goal by working as a career coach and speaker to guide and educate data and technology enthusiasts to successfully transition into the field. Also, I serve as a Woman in Data Science Ambassador on behalf of Stanford University, NASA Solar System Ambassador, Grammy University Member, and a BlackTIDES executive member.

How did you hone your business and presentation skills? I understand that you won a big “pitch” contest.

As a graduate student, I had the opportunity to start honing in on those skills as a Data Strategy Consultant at Mercy College’s Strategic Consulting Institute when I worked on consulting assignments. I later partnered with the Small Development Business Center at Pace University to pitch at competitions effectively

Where did you go to school and how did you get started?

I completed a Bachelor of Science in Public Health magna cum laude at the University at Albany (SUNY) and a Master in Business Administration with distinction at Mercy College.

Please tell us about what you are doing now.

By day, I am a data professional working in medical education. By night, I am an ambassador for data learning. This allows me to create data-inspired apparel to support data learning resources, coach clients 1:1 on interview skills, speak at conferences and teach fundamental data topics such as Introduction to Excel and Data Visualization.

What was the best thing that happened as you started your career? ·

The best thing was when I founded my company, Data Girl Ash, where I provide career coaching services and create data-inspired apparel to support educational resources.

What was the worst or most disappointing or most challenging?

The most challenging part was making the transition into data analytics with no technical experience.

What advice would you give to other young women beginning a career in today’s world?

Set realistic goals to help you find the best options that work for you and allow you to live life on your terms!

Where are you headed next/what is your ultimate dream?

My ultimate dream is to motivate other people to make a leap of faith and find their passion.

What do you love?

I love being able to travel to new places.

What quirky things do you do?

One of the quirky things I do is write in my planner because I like to set daily goals and cross them off when they are complete.

Where will we find you on your day off?

You can find me looking up recipes to cook in my air fryer!
